Accreditation Council for Clinical LipidologyBasic Competency in Clinical Lipidology ProgramThe Basic Competency in Clinical Lipidology program offers a competency assessment and credentialing pathway for any healthcare professional or paraprofessional with an interest or involvement in the area of dyslipidemia. There is no specific licensure or work experience required to apply. One must simply have an interest in or work experience in the area of dyslipidemia management, and complete basic lipid management training. Who Should Take the Exam?
Eligibility CriteriaApplicants must have completed a minimum of 10 continuing education credit hours in clinical lipidology in the previous 2 calendar years. We encourage applicants to satisfy this requirement by completing the National Lipid Association (NLA) Lipid Management Training Course (www.lipid.org/education/lmtc). However, credit hours may alternatively be obtained by completing Volume I of the NLA-SAP (www.lipid.org/sap), the NLA Masters in Lipidology Advanced Training and Board Review Course(www.lipid.org/education/masters), or other courses of lipid-focused study endorsed or sponsored by the NLA. Examination InformationThe BCCL exam was created at the intermediate level of difficulty and consists of between 50-75 multiple-choice questions. It is offered year round at local testing centers in your community. Upon approval of your application, you will be notified via e-mail of how to create a test-taker account, find a testing center in your community, and make an examination appointment. DesignationThose who successfully pass the BCCL exam will be given the designation "Basic Competency in Clinical Lipidology" by the ACCL.
