Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility requirements for the certification examination are listed below. To become credentialed, candidates must submit evidence that they have earned 200 points through primary care board certification, advanced training and education, experience, an academic appointment, or clinical research in the field of lipid disorders or other related disorders. Although rigorous, the requirements have been designed to provide any advanced practice healthcare provider with demonstrated knowledge and experience in lipids an avenue to become a Clinical Lipid Specialist.

Basic Eligibility for all Applicants

  • US or Canadian Resident
  • Must be one of the following:
    • Licensed Pharmacist
    • Licensed Physician Assistant
    • Licensed Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist
    • Licensed Registered Nurse
    • Registered Dietitian (licensed if applicable)
    • ACSM Certified Exercise Specialist
    • ACSM Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist
    • ACE Advanced Health Fitness Specialist

AND

  • Must possess one of the following:
    • BS/BA degree or higher in related health science and have 3,000 contact hours of demonstrated clinical experience in the management of patients with lipid disorders or other related disorders

OR

    • Masters degree or higher in related health science and have 2,000 contact hours of demonstrated clinical experience in the management of patients with lipid disorders or other related disorders

OTHER PROFESSIONALS

  • This pathway is for Allied Health Professionals who do not fit into any of the professions listed above or do not have licensure available for profession. These applicants must demonstrate 4,000 contact hours of clinical experience in the management of patients with lipid disorders or other related disorders.

This examination is designed and intended for health care professionals who have defined roles as practitioners in the management of patients with lipid and other related disorders.

Please remember that you will be required to present copies of certificates of attendance for the CME/CE activities that you submit for points and the titles of the activities must be clearly identified. If the title of the session is not clearly related to lipids, we also encourage you to submit a copy of the program or educational outline to assist with credentialing review.
